Jean-Louis Brochu

A highly experienced expert in intellectual property, with over 15 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, he is renowned for his mastery of patent strategies and the creation of portfolios for innovative products. His expertise spans the entire drug development lifecycle, from initial discovery to post-marketing management.
Jean-Louis Brochu joined the IRICoR team in 2019. A former senior intellectual property researcher at Pharmascience, one of Canada’s largest generic pharmaceutical companies, he distinguished himself through his expertise in panoramic international patent searches and the drafting of strategic opinions on validity, infringement and freedom to operate. Jean-Louis has played a key role in Pharmascience’s ecosystem-based pharmaceutical patent pipeline selection, targeting the right markets, while providing essential support throughout the drug development lifecycle: from initial selection to commercialization, as well as litigation support in the run-up to commercialization.
Prior to joining Pharmascience, Jean-Louis began his career as a medicinal chemist for 5 years, working at Painceptor Pharma, Sussex Research Laboratories and the National Research Council Canada (NRC) in Ottawa.
A member of the Ordre des chimistes du Québec, he holds a B.Sc. in Biopharmaceutical Sciences – Medicinal Chemistry and an M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry, both from the University of Ottawa. He has also served on the Intellectual Property Committee of the Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association (CGPA), actively contributing to the evolution of the generic pharmaceutical industry in Canada.
